Breast implants can help patients achieve their ideal figure and boost their confidence; however, they are not meant to be permanent. Breast implants have an average lifespan of about 12 to 14 years, after which if broken may need to be replaced and in some cases, the breast shape revised. They may even be removed sooner due to health concerns or if a patient is no longer satisfied with the result that their breast implants give. Here are a few tips to help you determine when it’s time for breast implant revision and replacement.

Why Do Patients Have Breast Implants Revised or Replaced? 

Patients may opt to have breast implants revised or replaced due to health and aesthetic concerns, such as the following: 

• A breast implant has ruptured (silicone) or deflated (saline)
• The scar tissue around the implant has become hard (capsular contracture)
• The patient has a health concern about the implants
• The patient is dissatisfied with the position of the implant
• The patient is unhappy with the size or shape of the breast
• The patient has had their implants for several years

When Is It Time for a Breast Implant Revision and Replacement?
