Choosing the appropriate breast implant size is one of the most important decisions you will have to make regarding your breast augmentation. The size implant used in your procedure will significantly impact your results in a number of ways including the appearance of your breasts, your risk of complications, and how long your results will last.
Breast implant sizes are measured in cubic centimeters (cc’s), not cup sizes. While this may seem confusing at first, you should keep in mind that cup sizes are not standardized. You may be a C cup in a bra made by one company and a D cup in another. Also, the same size implant will not necessarily provide the same cup size as an end result in every patient since each woman’s natural breast size is slightly different.
For these reasons, it is important to think in terms of cc’s when discussing breast implant size. One study found that in general, 189 cc will result in approximately a one cup size increase.
Factors to consider when choosing the right breast implant size include your:
- Breast measurements
- Breast tissue type (thin, fatty, tuberous, fibrous)
- Current cup size
- Aesthetic goals
