Does Body Contouring Decrease BMI Over the Long-Term?

Patients who undergo body contouring following weight loss surgery are more likely to maintain a lower Body Mass Index (BMI) over the long-term according to a newly published study. The study, based on ten years of research following multiple patients between the ages of 18 and 50 who had undergone laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, found that patients who underwent body contouring procedures such as tummy tuck and body lift maintained an average BMI of 24.6 percent. Those who did not averaged 31 percent, presenting clear evidence that post-bariatric surgery body contouring assists in maintaining a healthier weight long after the initial surgical procedure.
